The Pentagon said it had carried out an air strike on Al Shabaab in Somalia on Sunday, hitting one of the ISIS-linked group’s main training and command posts. Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi said he had authorized special forces to join “our international partners” to conduct a strike against the Al Shabab training camp near Sakow, in the Middle Juba region of southern Somalia. He said the strike was successful and destroyed a key al Shabaab command and supply hub, but gave no details of damage or casualties.
On Thursday, Al Shabaab killed 59 people in an attack on a military base in the semi-autonomous Puntland region in northern Somalia.
