Lebanon names new army commander for 1st time since 2008

Lebanon on Wednesday appointed Gen. Joseph Aoun, a relative of President Michel Aoun, as commander of its army. He succeeds Gen. Jean Kahwaji who had held the post since 2008. The step was among a series of appointments announced by the information minister after a meeting of the Lebanese cabinet.
