Russian state media reported Saturday that the Admiral Grigorovich frigate, armed with cruise missiles, has entered the Mediterranean and would call at Russia’s logistic base at Tartus. This step followed Russia’s pledge to help strengthen Syria’s air defenses after the US strike on the western Syrian Shayrat air base Friday in retaliation for Bashar Assad’s chemical attack on Khan Sheikhoun. The frigate’s ongoing presence would depend on developments on the region but would last at least a month, TASS reported.
In Washington, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said that President Donald Trump would not “telegraph his next move.”
